Irrigation

If you were a professional groundskeeper responsible for maintaining the irrigation on campus and was also paid handsomely to install the raised beds and irrigation, you would have also modified the pre-existing lawn sprinklers while you were at it.  Wouldn't you?

But alas, for now we are stuck with the old lawn sprinklers watering part of our community garden on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.  This is causing a number of problems with notable fungal infections and uneven watering, let alone the huge waste of water.  Andrew Brokenshire has been notified and hopefully our supposed professional groundskeepers will soon modify the adjustable sprinklers so that only the lawn areas are watered.  Longer term we would like to replace the less usable strips of lawn with fruit trees...

Eventually we will use our programmable drippers with individual shut-off valves to optimise water delivery to each bed.  But for now, be on the lookout, get your hands into the soil to check the moisture, hand water anything that feels too dry, and please let me know if you notice any issues. A little heat stress on really hot days is normal, but we don't want to kill off otherwise productive plants.
